September's full moon
Corn Moon 2027
The Corn Moon is September's full moon. In 2027 it is full on Wednesday, 15 September 2027, 23:04 UTC. This year it is also the Harvest Moon, the full moon nearest the autumn equinox. It is named for the corn harvest; when it falls nearest the autumn equinox it is also the Harvest Moon.
Corn Moon meaning
September's full moon is named for the corn harvest. In most years it is also the Harvest Moon, the full moon closest to the autumn equinox, which rises only a little later each evening for several nights and once gave farmers extra light to bring the crop in. When October's full moon falls closer to the equinox, that one is the Harvest Moon and September's keeps the name Corn Moon.
Also called: Harvest Moon, Barley Moon, Fruit Moon. The names come from the seasonal calendars of Native American, Colonial American and European tradition, as collected in the Old Farmer's Almanac; each one marks what was happening on the land in that month.
Harvest Moon or Hunter's Moon? The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the September equinox, which is usually September's but roughly every three years falls in early October. The Hunter's Moon is always the full moon after it.

Times are UTC; your local time is shown in the opening line. A full moon is an instant, but the Moon looks full to the eye the night before and the night after as well.
Best time to see the Corn Moon
Go out at moonrise on the evening of Wed 15 Sept: look east just after sunset, when the Moon sits on the horizon, looks largest, and takes on its warmest colour. Around the equinox the Moon rises only 20–30 minutes later each night instead of the usual 50: several evenings in a row of a big moon at dusk.
