February's full moon
Snow Moon 2027
The Snow Moon is February's full moon. In 2027 it is full on Saturday, 20 February 2027, 23:24 UTC. It is named for the heaviest snowfalls of the year, which tend to come in February.
Snow Moon meaning
February brings the heaviest snowfalls of the year across much of North America and Europe, and the month's full moon was named for them. Hunting was hardest in this stretch of winter, which gave the moon its grimmer alternative name.
Also called: Hunger Moon, Storm Moon, Bone Moon. The names come from the seasonal calendars of Native American, Colonial American and European tradition, as collected in the Old Farmer's Almanac; each one marks what was happening on the land in that month.

Times are UTC; your local time is shown in the opening line. A full moon is an instant, but the Moon looks full to the eye the night before and the night after as well.
Best time to see the Snow Moon
Go out at moonrise on the evening of Sat 20 Feb: look east just after sunset, when the Moon sits on the horizon, looks largest, and takes on its warmest colour. Fresh snow doubles the moonlight: a clear night under the Snow Moon is bright enough to cast shadows and read by.
Tonight's moonrise time for your location is on the live moon page.
