April's full moon
Pink Moon 2027
The Pink Moon is April's full moon. In 2027 it is full on Tuesday, 20 April 2027, 22:27 UTC. It is named for moss pink, the wild ground phlox that is one of the first flowers of spring — not for the Moon's colour.
Pink Moon meaning
April's moon is not pink. It is named for moss pink, or creeping phlox, one of the earliest wildflowers of spring in eastern North America, which carpets the ground in the weeks around it. It is the Paschal Moon in many years: the first full moon after the spring equinox.
Also called: Sprouting Grass Moon, Egg Moon, Fish Moon, Paschal Moon. The names come from the seasonal calendars of Native American, Colonial American and European tradition, as collected in the Old Farmer's Almanac; each one marks what was happening on the land in that month.

Times are UTC; your local time is shown in the opening line. A full moon is an instant, but the Moon looks full to the eye the night before and the night after as well.
Best time to see the Pink Moon
Go out at moonrise on the evening of Tue 20 Apr: look east just after sunset, when the Moon sits on the horizon, looks largest, and takes on its warmest colour. Look at moonrise, when the low Moon picks up a warm colour from the atmosphere — the nearest the Pink Moon gets to its name.
