March's full moon
Worm Moon 2027
The Worm Moon is March's full moon. In 2027 it is full on Monday, 22 March 2027, 10:44 UTC. It is named for the earthworms that reappear as the ground thaws, bringing back the birds.
Worm Moon meaning
As the ground thaws in March, earthworms return to the surface and the robins follow them — the first sure sign the cold is breaking. The name was recorded by the Old Farmer's Almanac from the Algonquin and other peoples of the north-east. Some years it is also the last full moon of winter; the first after the spring equinox sets the date of Easter.
Also called: Crow Moon, Sap Moon, Lenten Moon, Crust Moon. The names come from the seasonal calendars of Native American, Colonial American and European tradition, as collected in the Old Farmer's Almanac; each one marks what was happening on the land in that month.

Times are UTC; your local time is shown in the opening line. A full moon is an instant, but the Moon looks full to the eye the night before and the night after as well.
Best time to see the Worm Moon
Go out at moonrise on the evening of Mon 22 Mar: look east just after sunset, when the Moon sits on the horizon, looks largest, and takes on its warmest colour. The Worm Moon rises almost due east and sets almost due west, because it falls close to the equinox.
